The Challenge: This was a unique design opportunity! My client purchased a townhome and was immediately offered a job that would require her to relocate out of state. She decided to keep the townhome and use it as an Airbnb property.

The Wishlist: She directed me to, “Design this backyard as if you were renting this property for a week. What would you like to see”.
The Solution:
-
I envisioned a formal, modern backyard design with clean lines and strong geometric shapes, a small color palette for plants, neutral hardscape materials, decorative stone mulch, and low maintenance.
-
A rectangular paver patio would be the base for outdoor furniture, a grill, and perhaps a wood-burning fire bowl. The patio is physically connected to the detached garage by the paver walkway.
-
A square-shaped turf area allows for sunbathing, yard games, or a pet to use for their “business”.
-
A decorative modern wood screen serves to visually and audibly block the patio from the house utilities.
-
A raised planter for growing herbs or vegetables for renter's use.
-
Minimal ornamental trees, shrubs, and perennials add interest and color with a modernistic feel.
-
I included a new front foundation planting plan for welcoming curb appeal for Airbnb guests.
